Penguin Coins

Earning Coins

  • Club Penguin Coins are your currency for buying stuff. You earn coins by playing games inside Club Penguin.
  • There are many different games to choose from: Mancala, Hydrohopper, Astro Barrier, Bean Counters, Sled Racing, Puffle Roundup and more. Playing any of these games will earn you coins.
  • Coins cannot be purchased with real money, only earned within the game.
  • Coins cannot be transferred from penguin to penguin.
  • When you buy items, coins will automatically be deducted from your penguin account, and the item will be added to your inventory. Only members can spend their coins on whatever they want.

Buying Items

  • If you are a member, you can spend your coins to buy any item (clothing, accessory or furniture) for your penguin.
  • If you are not a member, you can buy colors for your penguin, and occasionally you will be able to buy other items. But as a non-member, you are limited in how you can spend your coins.
  • To buy clothing and accessories, go into the Gift Shop and click on the catalog to shop for items to buy. Click ‘Buy Now’ in the catalog for the item you wish to purchase. When you buy an item, it gets added to your stuff shown on the Player Card.
  • Your penguin will not automatically wear the item you purchased. You must edit your penguin to wear your new clothing.
  • To buy furniture for your igloo, please read the Edit Your Igloo section of this manual.

Club Penguin Characters!

Captain Rockhopper

  • Captain Rockhopper is a pirate who sails the seas on his ship, The Migrator, in search of adventure, and of course treasure. When he’s not out at sea, he’s at home on Club Penguin. He typically returns every couple of months and brings along rare and special items to sell.

  • He built The Migrator and cast off on his first journey sometime in March 2005. He returned over a year later with many tales to tell and treasure to sell. He stores his treasure on Rockhopper Island, which he discovered and named during his year at sea.

  • To find out more about the bearded pirate, read the stories in his journal. It is on his ship.

  • Look for signs of his return in the Lighthouse telescope, located at the Beacon and read The Penguin Times newspaper for updates.

Safety

Ultimate Safe Chat vs. Standard Safe Chat

  • There are two ways to chat in Club Penguin: Ultimate Safe Chat, using the quick chat menu, and Standard Safe Chat.
  • Quick chat messages are found using the button on the far left of your toolbar; click there and you will find a menu of things to say.
  • If you are set to use Standard Safe Chat, you can click in the text box in the middle of your toolbar and type your own messages. Press enter or click on the send button (right) to send the message. This kind of chatting is subject to word filters to help enforce the club rules, so what you type in may not be seen by other players.
  • There are two ways to view the chat as well. You can either watch the speech bubbles that appear over each penguin’s head when he or she says something, or, you can use the log window at the top. This window can be dragged down to allow you to see more of the conversation at once. Click on the tab at the top of the window and drag it down.
  • If your penguin does not have a text box to type in messages, you are set to Ultimate Safe Chat.
  • In Ultimate Safe Chat, you cannot type messages, but can communicate using the menu on the left of the toolbar, as well as by emotes, actions, and greeting cards.
  • Note: If you are in Ultimate Safe Chat mode, you will only see other Ultimate Safe Chat messages, along with actions, emotes, and greeting cards.
  • You can easily Change Your Safe Chat Level.

Puffles

About Puffles

  • Puffles are small, round, furry creatures that were first discovered in the early part of 2006.
  • These friendly little creatures make great pets because of their loyalty and friendliness.

Types of Puffles

  • There are 6 different types of puffles, each with a different personality.
  • Blue Puffles are mild tempered and content. Their favorite toy is a ball. Blue Puffles are special because anyone in Club Penguin can adopt them.
  • Pink Puffles are very active and cheery. They love to excercise by jumping rope or playing on their trampolines.
  • Black Puffles are known to be a little mischievious and off tempered. However, they love to play and make a great pet for anyone who likes a little bit more personality.
  • Green Puffles are very energetic and playful. They like to clown around on their unicycles or play with their propeller caps.
  • Purple Puffles are lots of fun to have around. They enjoy blowing bubbles and are terrific dancers, but they can be a bit fussy, especially at mealtime.
  • Red Puffles are adventurous and enthusiastic. They are fearless when attempting daring tricks and spend a lot of their playful energy on a surf board. Rockhopper brought these puffles to Club Penguin on his ship from Rockhopper Island.

Adopting Puffles

  • Puffles can be adopted in the Pet Shop (located in the Plaza).
  • Click on the red catalog on the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. Click ‘Adopt’ in the catalog for the puffle of your choice. When you adopt your puffle, you get to choose a name for him/her.
  • Members can buy up to twelve puffles of any color.
  • Non-members can buy two puffles, with a choice of blue or red in color.
  • Once you've adopted your puffle, he/she will be waiting for you in your igloo to come take care of it.

Caring for Your Puffle - Resting

  • To let your puffle sleep, click on the second button from the left. Puffles get tired after a lot of activity and need to take naps to regain energy.

  • Usually a puffle will need some rest after you have played with it a couple times. But be careful though, too much sleep is not good for their health.

Caring for Your Puffle - Walking

  • To take your puffle for a walk, click on the far right button at the bottom of the puffle player card. Your puffle will stay by your side wherever you go. When you are finished walking your puffle, click the picture of your puffle, located on your penguin’s player card. It will be returned to your igloo. Puffles must be walked one at a time and returned home for food and rest.

Caring for Your Puffle - While you are out

  • Your puffles will still get hungry, need rest, and want to play while you are out exploring Club Penguin. Be sure to check up on them at least once for every hour you are Online. If they are not kept in good health, they may run away.

  • When you exit Club Penguin, your puffle goes into Pause Mode and will stay exactly how you left it until you return to Club Penguin. It will not get hungry or tired and it will not run away from home. To ensure your puffle goes into Pause Mode you will need to log off properly by clicking the Log Off button at the top right of your screen.
